  • Full-time, Flexible 37,5h/wk

  • Immediate start, applications considered on a rolling basis

  • 6 month position, with possibility of becoming permanent (subject to funding availability)

  • Starting salary £23-25,000/y (with quick transition to a senior role offering increased remuneration and additional benefits).


As Agricultural R&D Lead, your main objective is to contribute towards the development of BIO-F’s first prototypes, by carrying out greenhouse and field trials, in partnership with farmers or partners as appropriate.  

As this role is essential to the success of BIO-F, it is a unique opportunity for a proactive individual looking to become a core member of a growing company. There is potential to quickly (i.e. within a year) transition towards a senior role within the company, with potential benefits including increased remuneration (with funding being unlocked thanks to the team’s efforts), options for equity and greater responsibilities, including management.

In this role, you will:

  • Optimise and carry out growth of microalgae

  • Design and carry out experiments to validate our product with different plant crops in greenhouse and field trials

  • Stay up to date with literature and contribute to R&D planning

  • Be innovative and conscientious

  • Contribute towards other tasks as needed

If you like challenges, and have an agricultural background with knowledge of food crop production cycles and their management, you will be a great fit. 

Essential skills

  • Bachelors' degree in plant, agriculture sciences or similar subjects (e.g. biotechnology)

  • Practical experience with crop growth (arables, vegetables) at farm and/or research

  • Practical experience in microbiology, incl. sterile techniques and analytics

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal)

  • Skills in planning, organising, prioritising and decision-making

  • Manual dexterity for handling relevant equipment

  • Ability to think outside the box

  • Lack of of hesitation for solving problems

  • Strong attentional to detail, consistently working to a high standard

Desirable skills

  • Experience working with fertilisers

  • Experience working with seed treatment

  • Experience communicating with agriculture sector
